Surf Safe Appeal launched with donation from Queensland Premier
Queensland Premier Campbell Newman launched Surf Life Saving Queensland’s (SLSQ) annual Surf Safe Appeal with a donation from the Queensland Government to support vital surf lifesaving services around the state.
Marking the 10th year of the annual door knock and street appeal, Premier Newman presented SLSQ Chief Executive Officer John Brennan and volunteer Surf Lifesavers with a cheque from the Queensland Government for $50,000 to assist with running the vital services that SLSQ’s more than 8,000 patrolling members provide to the community.
Ahead of the Surf Safe Appeal, which runs from Monday 18 November to Sunday 1 December 2013, Mr Brennan said that the Appeal was an avenue for volunteer surf lifesavers to highlight the services they provide to the community, and an opportunity for the public to give back to the vital and iconic organisation. Donations can be made to any of the 5 North Queensland clubs or directly to North Qld Branch -40491201.
